Other Information

  • On the occasion of National youth day, ISRO launched its 42nd PSLV (Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle) from the First Launch Pad (FLP) from Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
  • PSLV successfully launched 31 satellites in a single flight.
  • Cartosat-2 Series Satellite is the main satellite carried by PSLV-C40.
  • The PSLV-C40 carried 30 co-passenger satellites out of which 28 satellites of six different countries i.e. Canada, Finland, France, Republic of Korea, USA, UK and 2 satellites belong to the nation.
  • International co-passenger includes 3 microsatellites and 25 nanosatellites.
  • Canada, France, UK, and Finland launched one satellite each, where The Republic of Korea launched 5 satellites and the USA launched the most number of satellites i.e.19. Total weight of international satellite is 470 kg.
  • The 28 international fellow passenger satellites were being launched as a part of the commercial agreement between international customers and Antrix Corporation Limited (the commercial arm of ISRO), a wholly possessed by the government of India under Department of Space.
  • India launched 2 satellites i.e. one microsatellite and one Indian Nanosatellite-1C (INS-1C) and PSLV-C40.
  • Total weight of satellites is about 1323 kg in which all co-passenger satellites are 623 kg and weight of PSLV-C40/Cartosat-2 series satellite is 710 kg.
  • The whole process of placing a satellite in two orbits took 2 hours and 21 minutes.
  • Cartosat-2 series was the first to be detached from the rocket and injected into the sun-synchronous orbit at 505 km above the earth, then nanosatellites and microsatellites in the different orbit.

Objective of launching PSLV-C40/Cartosat-2 series satellite

Primary aim to send Cartosat-2 into space is, to provide high-resolution images. The Cartosat-2 will snap high resolution images those will be useful for cartographic application (making maps), coastal land use and regulation, urban and rural applications, utility management like road network monitoring, water distribution, creation of land use maps, other Geographical Information System (GIS) applications as well as Land Information System (LIS).

Indian Satellites

India launched two satellites i.e. microsatellite, Indian Nano satellite-1C

Microsatellite:

  • Produced by ISRO
  • The satellite bus is modular in design
  • This can be fabricated and tested independently of payload.

Indian Nanosatellite-1C:

  • Produced by ISRO
  • This is third Satellite in INS-1C series.
  • The First two INS-1C satellites were carried by PSLV-C37 in February 2017.
  • Its mission life is about 6 months.
  • It is carrying Miniature Multispectral Technology Demonstration (MMX-TD)

ISRO’s future plans

After learning from their failure ISRO starts work on their future plan with new Chairman K Sivan. Now they start working on:
  1. GSLV-F08/GSAT-6A mission
