Piyush Goyal Launches UJALA Scheme in MP
-›Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All (UJALA), a National LED programme was launched in Madhya Pradesh.
-› Under the Scheme 3 crore LED Bulbs will be distributed in the next 6 months in the state.

-› Rs. 85 per LED bulbs has to be paid for 9W bulb.
-› A 9W LED bulb gives the same luminosity as a 100W incandescent lamp but consumes less than one tenth of the power.

May 1: International Labour Day
-› International Labour Day was first started as International Workers’ Day in Chicago in May 1886.
-› The first celebration of Labour Day in India took place in Chennai on May 1, 1923.
It was organized by the Labour Kisan Party of Hindustan and marked the beginning of the use of the red flag.
-› The theme this year is ‘Celebrating the international labour movement’

Diesel taxis to go off from Delhi

-› Diesel taxis are banned from the roads of Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR) from 1st May.

AP first state to Open Defection free
-› Andhra Pradesh will make all 100 municipalities Open Defecation Free by October 2 this year as per the progress.
-› 1.04 L toilets has already been completed against the target of 1.94 L toilets.

SIDBI signs MoU with SAARC Development
-› Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) and SAARC Development Fund (SDF) signed an MOU for mutual cooperation and collaboration.

Ban Ki-moon appoints Indian
-› UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appointed an Indian academician Radha Kumar to the UN University Council among 11 other members.
-› Kumar is the Director General of Delhi-based think tank Delhi Policy Group.

Reliance Defense signs pacts
-› Reliance Defense signed strategic partnership agreements with three Ukrainian state-owned companies.
-› Pacts will allow collaboration on various military products like transport aircraft, maritime gas turbines and unmanned aerial vehicles.
