Economics: Two U.S-based economists, Oliver Hart (U.K) & Bengt Holmstrom (Finland) have been awarded the 'Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel' for their contributions to contract theory.
Peace: Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to end the 52-year conflict with left-wing rebels.
Medicine: Japan's Yoshinori Ohsumi has received the 2016 Noble Prize for Medicine. He has received the award "for his discoveries of mechanisms for autophagy".
Physics: The prize goes jointly to David J. Thouless, F. Duncan M. Haldane, & J. Michael Kosterlitz who discovered a mathematical framework in the field of topography, to explain unexpected properties of solid materials.
Chemistry: Awarded to Jean-Pierre Sauvage, Sir J. Fraser Stoddart & Bernard L. Feringa for developing the molecular machine.
Literature: American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan has been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature 2016 "for having created new poetic expressions. within the great American song tradition".
